Caregiver
Description:
I took care to our father, Julian Loma. No formal training on the nature of work. Learned the techniques of upper and lower body range of motions (ROM) from visiting physical therapists, moving of patient in bed or to an erect sitting position/ standing position, transferring of the patient from bed to wheelchair/ chair with armrests, medical management (hot pack) to patient's affected part (left hip-joint dislocation), and body massage. During days of their absence, I continued the same exercises. Followed the doctor's instructions of administering medicines, the change of condom catheter and urinary bag, perennial care, care for bedsore and skin allergy, feeding through nasal gastric tube (NGT) and transition to semi-solid feeding by mouth, and moving of the patient to each side every two hours to prevent pressure sores.

Other things I did were:
1. To maintain safety of the patient like preventing him from falling to the floor.
2. Keeping bed linens fresh and clean, washing of soiled linens, clothes and disinfecting them,.
3. Caring for defecation, bed bathing, and cleaning/ sanitizing the room.

As home confined personal care, I worked 24/7. During emergency/ crisis situations, I consulted my own family and call the doctor for immediate relief to the patient's problems.

My services to our own parent terminated upon his death on April 18, 2004. Our family recommended that I should take up a Caregiver course after months of mourning.
